Music distributors: which one fits you?

A comparison for artists and labels · goal: automate distribution without losing royalties · data from May 2026.

The study in 30 seconds

Many classic distributors (like LabelWorx) are good for dance/Beatport, but have no API: it's all FTP + metadata by hand. That can't be automated end to end.

If you want a machine that distributes and promotes by code, you have to look at API-first distributors. The ones that let you start today with public docs and a sandbox: LabelGrid and limbo/. The most complete as a label operating system (with a demo): Revelator.

Cost of switching: re-uploading releases on the new one (the ISRCs are kept). If your label is barely starting out, the time to switch is as soon as possible, not with dozens of tracks already inside.

LabelGrid · fit 95

Open self-service API: you can wire up distribution by code today. The best fit if the goal is to automate.

limbo/ · fit 92

Very new, open API and transparent pricing. A direct alternative to LabelGrid.

Revelator · fit 88

The most powerful API, a label operating system. You go through a sales demo before you start. Spotify Platinum, Merlin.
